An erosion clipper modulates the clipping threshold with shaped noise on a per-sample basis. Traditional hard clippers use a fixed digital ceiling that collapse your transients to mono and create sustained, unmusical foldback aliasing harmonics. BuzzCut’s erosion engine randomises the threshold position on every sample, retaining stereo depth and masking those tonal aliasing artifacts with broadband noise - “analog air”. The concept is similar to how dithering masks truncation distortion.
BuzzCut is (as far as I know) the first clipping plugin to use this technique.
BuzzCut takes a fundamentally different approach. Its stereo erosion engine adds a natural “3D dimension” during clipping events. Conventional clippers actually collapse to mono during clipping. Many reviews report that BuzzCut’s combination of erosion and exponential soft-clipping lets you transparently squeeze around 1 dB more out of your master before audible distortion.
It also includes features most competitors lack: asymmetric distortion for even-order harmonics, a dual-channel oscilloscope, and multi-stage RMS & LUFS auto-gain.
BuzzCut was specifically designed as “the ultimate mastering clipper.” The combination of oversampling, erosion, and exponential soft-clipping preserves transient detail and stereo depth at extreme loudness. Multi-stage LUFS auto-gain lets you A/B the sound without volume bias, the delta function lets you hear exactly what you’re doing, and True Ceiling protection prevents peaks from sneaking past your 0 dB target.
Producers in bass music, EDM, hip-hop, pop, and reggae all use BuzzCut on their master bus.
Most clippers apply identical processing to positive and negative signal polarities, producing only odd-order harmonics. BuzzCut lets you unlink the thresholds and apply different wave-shaping curves and erosion amounts to each polarity independently. This generates even-order harmonics: the same warmth associated with tube and tape saturation, giving you unique tonal options no symmetrical clipper can achieve.
Yes. BuzzCut’s core processing path is 100% zero latency, making it suitable for live performance, real-time monitoring, and low-latency mixing. The optional oversampling modes add minimal latency (around 1.5 ms) when maximum anti-aliasing precision is required.
Because BuzzCut is currently stereo-only, it fails Logic’s Audio Unit validation scan and gets disabled automatically. The plugin works fine once loaded. Logic is just strict about mono bus support. Here’s how to override it.
Step 1: Force-Enable the Plugin
Step 2: Load the Plugin
Troubleshooting
Plugin still doesn’t appear? Try fully closing and reopening Logic Pro after enabling it in the Plug-in Manager.
Logic becomes unstable? Go back to the Plug-in Manager, uncheck the Use box for BuzzCut, or click Disable Failed Audio Units to revert all overrides at once.
First, verify the files were installed to the correct default folders on your computer:
Windows Default Path
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\LusiD\BuzzCut.vst3macOS Default Paths
AU: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/BuzzCut.component
VST3: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/BuzzCut.vst3
If the files are there, your DAW likely needs to rescan its plugin database. Click your DAW below for instructions:
Ableton Live
- Open Preferences (CMD+, on Mac / CTRL+, on Windows).
- Go to the Plug-Ins tab.
- Hold down the ALT/Option key and click “Rescan” (forces a full rescan).
FL Studio
- Go to Options > Manage plugins.
- Click “Find installed plugins” (top left).
- Ensure “Verify plugins” is checked if it still doesn’t appear.
Logic Pro
- Restart your computer (Logic often requires a reboot to see new AU plugins).
- If that fails, go to Logic Pro > Settings > Plug-in Manager.
- Select “LusiD” in the manufacturer list and check the “Use” box.
- If it’s not there, click “Full Audio Unit Reset”.
Studio One
- Go to Studio One > Options > Locations > VST Plug-ins.
- Ensure “Reset Blacklist” is checked at startup, or click “Scan at Startup” and restart Studio One.
Reaper
- Go to Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > VST.
- Click “Re-scan…” and select “Clear cache and re-scan VST paths for all plug-ins”.
Cubase / Nuendo
- Go to Studio > VST Plug-in Manager.
- Click the Settings (Cog icon) near the bottom left.
- Click the Rescan All button (icon with two circling arrows).
